Katia Kameli

Katia Kameli (Arabic: كاتيا كاميلي), born in 1973 in Clermont-Ferrand (France), is a French-Algerian artist and filmmaker.

The practice of Katia Kameli, a French-Algerian artist and filmmaker, is rooted in a research-based approach: historical and cultural facts fuel the diverse forms of her visual and poetic imagination. She views herself as a "translator." Translation is not merely a passage between two cultures or a simple act of transmission; it also functions as an extension of meaning and form. The act of translation deconstructs the binary—and sometimes hierarchical—relationship between the concepts of original and copy. A rewriting of narratives emerges within her work. She highlights a global history defined by porous borders and reciprocal influences, aiming to open up a reflective path that fosters a critical perspective on the world.

Katia Kameli is a graduate of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Bourges and completed the "Collège-Invisible" postgraduate program at the École Supérieure d’Arts de Marseille.
